Why a small lip brand built a clip-on sleeve before it launched more shades.
Look at anyone’s bag right now and something’s probably hanging off it. Charms, ribbons, tiny plush things, a happy jumble of keyrings. The bag charm is having a full-blown moment — and honestly? We’re into it.
But here’s the thing about most of them: they’re decoration. Cute, dangling, does-nothing decoration. So when we decided to make one, we asked a slightly annoying question: what if a bag charm actually earned its place? What if it did a job?
That question is the whole reason we made a lip sleeve before we made more shades. And the reason is the brand, so let me explain.
The obvious move was more shades
Every growth guide, every well-meaning advisor, every spreadsheet says the same thing to a young lip brand: launch more shades. More colours, more reasons to click add-to-cart, a launch you can shout about. It’s not bad advice.
But I’ve been a makeup artist since 2008, and I’ve watched enough people shop to know an inconvenient truth about that plan.
A lipstick you love is useless at the bottom of your bag
Here’s what actually happens to the lip you love. It rolls to the bottom of your bag. It loses its cap somewhere between your keys and your earphones. You leave it on the bathroom shelf on the one day you needed it. You own it — you just can’t find it, and by the time you do, the moment for a touch-up has passed.
Owning twelve shades doesn’t fix that. It just gives you twelve things to lose. The problem was never a shortage of colour. It was that the colour you already loved wasn’t with you when you reached for it.
So we made a bag charm that's functional
Ours clips on like every other charm — a gold keyring, ready for your bag, your belt loop, or your keys. But it has a holding space for a lipstick you actually reach for: your favourite Velvet Kiss Matte Liquid Lipstick or Skinny Dip Peptide Infused Lip Oil, carried on the outside of your life instead of lost at the bottom of it.
That’s the difference between a charm and a tool. One looks nice. The other means you never dig for your lipstick again.
We called the whole idea La Nin, Always On You, because that’s the entire point. You touch up in seconds, on the go, without the treasure hunt. And yes — it still looks good doing it.
We’d rather you use one lip you love than own five you forget
That’s the philosophy, plainly: we would rather you actually wear one La Nin lip every day than own a drawer full you forget about. For a small brand, the details aren’t a nice-to-have — the details are the whole brand. We can’t out-shout the big names. We can only make the thing in your hand feel considered.
Why it’s free (and why we started with a limited few)
You’ll notice we’re giving the sleeve away — free with any two lip products — and I want to be honest about that, because “free gift” usually means “thing we’re trying to offload.”
This is the opposite. It’s the most useful object we could put in your hands, so we tied it to the two-product combo instead of selling it as an afterthought.
And the limited few? That one’s simple: we’re a small brand being careful with our money. We didn’t want to sink a big investment into a huge run before we knew you’d actually love it — so we made a few to start. No fake countdown, no “gone forever” pressure. If this first batch runs out and you’re still asking for it, we’ll happily make more. It’s a first run, made honestly, to find out whether the sleeve becomes a La Nin staple. I’d rather tell you that plainly than invent urgency. 
The shades will come — when they earn it
None of this means we’re done with colour. New shades are coming. But they’ll come the way everything here does: tested on 50+ real people across skin tones, launched because they’re right, not because a calendar said it was time for “new.”
Restraint isn’t the exciting choice. It’s just the honest one. We’d rather make fewer things you keep reaching for than more things you scroll past.
So sure — clip a charm to your bag. Clip ten. But maybe make one of them the kind that holds the lip you love, right where you can find it. Because the best lip isn’t the tenth one in your collection. It’s the one that’s actually on you when you want it.
